The Centre for Gender Studies
The Centre for Gender Studies is a part of The Department of Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics. The purpose of the Centre is to apply an interdisciplinary perspective to the work regarding the importance of gender within the research fields of the humanities. Lately, the Centre has broadened its perspective to also include other parameters of diversity such as race, class, sexuality, masculinity, queer identity, and ethnicity.
Through analysis, oral and written dissemination, historical lectures, and the appliance of a broader perspective we aim to give the students a theoretical, practical, and scientific foundation which will enable them to perform analysis of gender in various contexts.
Study Programme
The study programme consists of courses equivalent to 45 ECTS for the BA student an 30 ECTS for the MA student. In both cases the study constitute only a part of the BA and MA studies. Two courses cover theoretical and scientific perspectives on gender and three electives present a variety of pespectives on gender for instance focusing on sexual identities and transgressions, emotions and cultural and media presentations of gender.
